The Bossettes
I’ve got to shout more about the ONLY band of the moment for me (and I hardly ever use capitals or italics, honest). I’ve just been spending an afternoon with The Bossettes’ humble collection of new songs and tracks from back when they were Ponyboy and Sodapop! (all gathered appropriately at their myspace on that clever new loop so you can have it on in the background and it’ll keep playing without you having to press any buttons), and really, they’re the sweetest things. Connie Jordan’s voice is all things at once, happy, sad, poignant and fun, pure Pop nectar, and the songs have a gloriously pastoral kind of charm that gets me every time. The Bossettes, a threesome of Jordan (“guitar, vocals, mandolin and knitting needles”), Michelle Polczynski (“drums, sweet beats and percussion”) and Kate Walls (“guitar, vocals, banjo, and Gladys the Xylophone Cow”) are hidden away out in rural/suburban Pennsylvania, and if there’s anywhere that you need warm music to shut out the cold, presumably it’s there. You can’t stop indie pop say The Bossettes, and when it’s made like this you just have to agree.
