Ruthin Rastas be HERERonnie Parry on Ruthin reggae night
IT RASTA BE A GOOD NIGHT IN RUTHIN'S VERY OWN ROUNDHOUSE. The sound of Jamaica is to make a welcome return to Ruthin in North Wales. This follows the recent arrival of the Pressure Sounds Reggae Night of dub, roots, digital and dancehall. The event, held for the first time in Llanfwrog Community Centre back in early February filtered a warm vibe into the chilly winter air. It’s become something of a cult happening over the last five years where it bedded well into its previous venue, the Plas Pigot in Denbigh. Despite the venue change, regulars to the night were delighted to witness Pressure Sounds' re-rooting being a resounding success. More than a hundred attended as word of mouth and social networking kept keen Reggae and African music lovers up to date with what was happening. Main man and organiser Jim Kilpatrick was quick to highlight the suitability of Ruthin's very own Roundhouse. "The venue is excellent," said Jim. "With two rooms, and an outdoor area, we had the ideal space. There were projectors showing obscure Jamaican cinema from the 1970s and beyond.” But the two reasons the night has kept such a following are the always friendly crowd and the attention to the music.” With regards to the music, we have a policy of playing vinyl Reggae ranging from dub to dancehall with special attention later in the night being dance floor friendly digital scorchers from the late 1980s like All Thriller no Filla.
"I, myself, play original press vinyl and have been collecting this for over 17 years, being a commitment to the music that I hope is felt by the crowd that turn up to the nights.” And Jim promises more of the same as the Pressure Sounds Reggae Night gears up for another round of happiness. He added: "The next event promises to be a crowd puller as it's on Good Friday, April 22, again at the Llanfwrog Community Centre.” Thanks and best wishes to all involved and those who attended in February.” The Good Friday event starts at 7pm with 70 CDs for the first in, and there's a licensed bar.
