Clive the Pumpkin Boy

There once was a boy left all alone with his toy
So one day he carved out of a pumpkin, a little boy

The boy gave him arms made of sticks and a candle for a heart
Gave him his finest black shoes and read him a book so he’d be smart

It was the day before Halloween that he named the boy Clive
And when he woke the next day he was suddenly alive

The boy loved the magic of Christmas and the night sky when the moon could be seen
And now he’s found a new magic, the magic of Halloween

They ran and played and sang all day
And in the night scared all the other children away

They were happy as can be but there was sadness in the boy’s eyes
For Clive the pumpkin boy’s candle would soon burn dry

When you’re a child you haven’t much to say
So they played and played until the candle burnt away

It broke the boy’s heart when he and Pumpkin boy had to part
But he’ll keep him safe for next year and give him a new bigger heart
